Like most Collingwood residents, you're probably fed up with the
past four years of uncontrolled spending, rising costs, rising taxes
and a council that lurches rudderless without evident goals or strategies.
You're tired of politicians ignoring residents while they line their
own pockets and use your tax dollars to pursue personal ambitions
You're fed up with major decisions being made behind
closed doors, with the utter lack of public information and
consultation around the sale of public assets, and with the culture of secrecy and deception that grew in town hall this term.
And you're angry at this council's utter and flagrant disrespect towards our hospital - and for the
many roadblocks they put up that derailed the much-needed redevelopment by as much as another decade.
This cannot be allowed to continue.
We need a new Council for 2019
I served as your representative for three terms, from 2003-14, helping guide
the town through stable, sustainable policies and initiatives. For
two decades, I served on many boards and committees, working collaboratively for common goals to benefit the greater good. Before I was elected, I owned and operated a
successful local retail business
for a decade, and learned budgeting and financial management from
it. Before that I worked in local media for a dozen years, covering
regional councils, issues and events.
I understand governance, finances, budgeting and I know how the
process of government should work.
I’m a contributor to Municipal World as both feature writer and book author on municipal issues. I owned and operated a successful local retail business for a decade which taught me financial management and budgeting. I am an author with four published books, and decades of experience in editorial, communications and publishing sectors, and I manage communications for a non-profit association that advocates for municipal water utilities.
I have the knowledge, the experience, the expertise and the
passion to help restore the balance and trust lost between residents
and town hall this term. I have the integrity to help guide us back
to an ethical, open and accountable council. I am well versed in all
the laws and the procedures that are intended to guide councils. I
have the skills to help Collingwood return to communicating with its
I have good contacts among our regional municipalities and at the
county. I am on the county’s library, museum and archives board (I attend county meetings monthly), and on the South Georgian Bay source water protection committee. I know about relations with
provincial ministries and conservation authorities and can help
build and restore them to Collingwood. I can help Collingwood heal.
Collingwood should not be run by people more concerned about their own welfare and entitlements than about the people who live here.
We need to rebuild our reputation with our neighbours and restore
ties with our business community. We need to be partners with our
This election is a chance to see Collingwood return to open, accountable and ethical government.
If you're fed up with the way things have been this term, if you
believe as I do that COLLINGWOOD DESERVES BETTER
than what we've had these four years, please vote for me as your next Deputy Mayor
this election to help start that process.
My first priority will be to re-establish an open, ethical council to rebuild trust with the public and staff, to restore our town’s reputation. Then I will address the financial crisis we face. We cannot continue this term’s reckless spending, unsustainable fiscal management and excessive hiring. We need to rein in expenses and costs. We must set clear, sustainable priorities before we can initiate any new projects or take on more debt.
Issues I will champion include a return of public committees and public engagement, economic development, and rebuilding regional relationships for collaborative partnerships and goals. I am also concerned about waterfront enhancement, jobs and industry retention, and maintaining and upgrading our infrastructure. Above all I will fight for well-managed, balanced budgets that have the least impact on taxpayers without sacrificing our quality of life. And I will listen to the public’s concerns and issues.
My goal will always be open, accountable government that serves the greater good.
