I am looking for information — and hopefully confirmation — about some local events that may have involved people who may be — or may wish to be — in “high places.” Some may also intend to put their name(s) forward for the 2022 municipal election. I believe that public officials should disclose any and all background that is relevant to voters making an informed choice, and that includes police records, lawsuits, ongoing court cases, divorce settlements, etc. Voters have the right to expect honesty and openness from their politicians, candidates included.
If you have any more information or details to add about the following, to confirm or deny these allegations, please contact me.
Event 1: In Feb. 1997, police allegedly stopped a car in or around Markdale and arrested the driver for being intoxicated. At the same time, they allegedly charged the driver with break, enter, and theft. My sources say the driver was fined in court and given a five-month probation. I’d also like to know where the B&E occurred, and what was stolen. Did the owners get their goods back? Did any lawsuits result from this?
Event 2: In Dec. 1998, the same person was allegedly arrested in Collingwood and charged with assault, then given a suspended sentence with a one-year probation. I’d also like to know who was assaulted and the circumstances. Did any lawsuits result from this?
Event 3: In the mid-1990s, an educational assistant or teacher’s assistant was allegedly fired from a job at Mountainview School. It has been suggested the reason was for having an inappropriate (sexual?) relationship with a grade-8 (13-year-old?) student. I would like confirmation about this event, but will not publish the name of the student. I’d also like to know if this was covered up by any school or board of education officials, and if so, by whom.
Event 4: In the period between 2010 and 2014, a volunteer working at the YMCA with young children was allegedly told not to come back (or fired?), possibly because parents complained about this person’s inappropriate behaviour around and/or speech with those children. I would like confirmation about this event, especially to hear from any parents who complained, but will not publish the names of the parents or children.
Event 5: In the period between 2010 and 2014, an educational assistant working with young children was allegedly fired from a job at Admiral Collingwood (?) school, possibly because parents complained about this person’s inappropriate behaviour and/or speech with those children. I would like confirmation about this event, especially to hear from any parents who complained, but will not publish the names of the parents or children. I’d also like to know if this was covered up by any school or board of education officials, and if so, by whom.
I’d also like to know if the local media knew or know about these events and if so, why they have not been made public.
