Now we’ve all had our little victory dances around the kitchen thanks to the USian voters’ rejection of MAGA and the Deranged Dictator Trump in the midterms — mostly rejected, although not entirely: Repugnicans still won too many seats — we can settle down and start wondering what happens between now and the swearing-in of the new politicians in January. Trump and his cabinet full of sycophantic enablers, his pet Supreme Court justices, as well as the Senate and Congress MAGA still controls, have several weeks in which to wreak havoc and continue their destruction of USian democracy and its institutions. I expect they will take every advantage of that time to continue their work.
Also, Trump really only has these few weeks to cement his legacy. After January, he will find resistance and legal challenges for almost everything he does. Not to mention the threat of being impeached again.
Here are a few possibilities to consider that Trump might act on before the New Year:
- Nuke Iran. Just before the midterms, Trump threatened to “hammer” Iran again, without specifying when or how. But Putin’s puppet, the low-IQ, former MAGA sycophant, Tucker Carlson, posted that Trump was “within days of launching a nuclear strike on Iran.” Trump has no effective way to exit from the war even he claims cost MAGA the midterms, and no plan how to carry it forward, either. The dictator is deranged enough to use nukes, despite the damage it would do to the USA’s reputation and alliances. Or the illegality of it. Of course, Carlson offered no proof, and might just have been making it up to gain views outside his diminishing cult audience. At the very least, we can expect Trump to escalate his attacks on Iran.
- Legally challenge selected results. Widespread speculation before the election suggested the Dictator Trump would use his pet DOJ to launch legal challenges against any results he didn’t like. While he has since said he accepted the results (this from a man with a world-record history of lying…), the DOJ remains his weapon of choice against anyone whom he believes slighted or annoyed him. Don’t rule out him using it in tight races like Alaska and Mississippi if Dems win there. And against any winning Democrat Muslim, woman, or person of colour. He is, after all, a racist and misogynist.
- Pre-emptively pardon everyone in the White House and Cabinet. With the very real threat of impeachment and legal action against his puppets and enablers, Trump could issue blanket presidential pardons for any- and everything they’ve done in his name. He might even offer a blanket pardon for the SpaceNazi Musk, whose behaviour, bribes, and companies will likely be investigated by Dems.
- Pre-emptively pardon members of his crime family. His kids and their spouses will get pardons for their egregious corruption, insider dealing, and grifting. Melania will probably get one, too, although it’s possible Trump will, instead, punish her for not being the subservient, ever-present trophy wife and leave her off the list of pardons.
- Get his “Triumphal” arch approved. Trump will never, ever let go of a vanity project, regardless of how tacky or narcissistic it appears (and all of his vanity projects do). He wants his legacy to be remembered visibly, even though he has nothing to celebrate and no triumphs anyone will ever recognize once he leaves office, outside of a few die-hard MAGA cultists.
- Cut off Ukraine. In an effort to appease his puppet master, Putin, Trump will do everything he can to destabilize, cut off, alienate, and harm Ukraine.
- Leave NATO. Dictator Trump hates NATO because his puppet master, Putin, hates NATO. Trump threatened to leave NATO already this year. Back in 2017, he dismissed NATO as “obsolete.” He accused other NATO members of “ripping off” the US because they weren’t spending enough on defence. In 2024, he said he would tell Putin and Russia to do “whatever the hell they want” to any European country. This would open the door for Russia to invade the Baltic states and Poland, as a start to Putin’s goal of restoring the old USSR empire. Trump’s withdrawal from NATO would help him do it.
- Expand the DOJ’s attacks on his perceived enemies. In the final few weeks, I expect Trump to demand the DOJ investigate and charge more of his opponents or critics. Even if they fail to gain convictions (as they have so far), they can tie up the agency and its resources, as well as their victims, for months, if not Trump’s remaining years in office.
- Expand the FCC’s attack on free speech. Trump has already used the FCC to punish and then get Stephen Colbert fired. He still wants Jimmy Kimmel off air, and will likely turn his ire to Kimmel, Jon Stewart, and other late-night hosts who have mocked or criticized him. Trump, as he has shown both terms, despises free speech.
- Withdraw from the United Nations completely. Trump has already withdrawn the US from and ended funding for 31 UN agencies and organizations, including UNHRC; the UN Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO); and the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA), saying these agencies have acted “contrary to the interests of the United States.” The US also withdrew from more than 30 forums for cooperation on climate change, peace and democracy. Again, this would benefit Putin, Xi, and other autocrats.
- Cut foreign aid even more. Trump already let the SpaceNazi Elon Musk and his DOGE terrorists cut funding that USAID and other agencies used to help developing nations. Children died from these cuts. This allowed his boss, Putin, and his much-admired friend, Xi, to offer aid to those nations — at the cost of one-sided contracts to extract resources and crippling debt servicing. And it greatly lowered the USA’s reputation in the eyes of those nations and the world. Expect him to cut any remaining aid entirely.
- Have the remaining Epstein files destroyed by the DOJ. Next year, all those nasty files will be made public; his dirty secrets and his pedophilia will be exposed even more, unless Trump can have the files destroyed before the Dems get ahold of them. The DOJ will try to cover up their action, of course, but it will be leaked. Maybe the files will be leaked before the DOJ can destroy them. What they reveal will be horrific.
- Litigate more. Trump has a history of suing people, media outlets, and organizations which he says have slighted or hurt him. It’s often just a performance, intended to distract media and public attention from his role in the Epstein files. But until those remaining files are destroyed, he needs to keep up the distractions.
- Lie about why MAGA lost the midterms. He’s already been doing this. He has blamed his anointed candidates, the war he started, his favourite propaganda outlet Fox Newz, and not being on the ballot (even though he was on it, in proxy). He will never take responsibility for the loss, never admit his own actions, policies, or statements were even a part of the problem. He will find others to blame in the next weeks, likely taking shots at Vance, DeSantis, Cruz, and other former MAGA loyalists who have since blamed or criticized him. Some of those he blames will be turfed out of office or jobs. Vance won’t get his endorsement to run in 2028.
- Destroy the remaining national parks. Trump already started to destroy publicly owned national parks by opening them up for resource extraction and development. He will expedite that by doing his utmost to have them all turned into places for corporations to exploit. Probably for a tidy cash purchase of his crypto coin.
I’m sure there are more things the Dictator will do to the detriment of the USian democracy and economy, but which will benefit himself and his crime family. I will not be surprised by violence he or his followers instigate, since that’s in the DNA.

Other MAGA politicians ae doing their best to wreck democracy in their own state:
Texas State Rep. Brian Harrison is not waiting for the new governor to get settled. Hours after Democrat Gina Hinojosa won the Texas governor’s race, Harrison called on Gov. Greg Abbott to immediately convene a special session to rein in executive emergency powers before Hinojosa is sworn in.
“Republicans lost last night, but Democrats were not sworn in,” Harrison wrote. “We still have total power in Texas, and we must act like it by using the remaining ten weeks to restore separation of powers and limit the emergency powers that Governor Elect Hinojosa is set to inherit.”
Harrison warned that without action, Hinojosa would inherit what he called “the powers of a DICTATOR,” claiming Texas emergency powers laws would let her modify, ignore, or create and enforce laws on a whim.
So the same emergency powers Republicans were fine with under Abbott are suddenly a crisis now that a Democrat is about to hold them.
