Mark Carney, our new Liberal leader, is campaigning to be Prime Minister of Canada. His main opponent, the rage-farming, grievance-mining Trump mimic Pierre PoiLIEvre, is campaigning to be governor of a 51st state. Canadians generally think PoiLIEvre is the candidate most likely to cave in and do whatever is necessary to appease Trump. That includes giving away our country just for a pat on the head from the US dictator.
PoiLIEvre’s party caucus all know this, they know how their leader has aligned himself with Trump, and has mimicked Trump’s words, behaviour, and disinformation campaigns. Canadian media knows it too.
Many rightwing extremists across Canada also hope we will lose our sovereignty so they can openly wave their swastika flags, and carry assault weapons into schools or restaurants. Some less-extreme (there are no ‘moderate’ conservatives left, apparently) followers also want this so they can lose their healthcare because being able to go bankrupt for medical expenses is a freedom they desire. And PoiLIEvre promised to make Canada “the most free nation on earth.” Just not free from corporate predation or American takeover.*
But they’re all gormless and ill-informed: at best we would become a dependent, second-rate US territory, like Puerto Rico or Guam. The US will never accept any other land as a state with the same powers or voting authority unless they are already white-ruled, fanatically Talibangelist, racist, and authoritarian.
PoiLIEvre’s top advisor and lobbyist for Loblaws, Jenni Byrne, was photographed wearing a Trump MAGA hat, an image widely shared on social media. She has never refuted the image nor denied her affection for the far-right pro-fascist MAGA movement. (CONservatives have never cared about lowering prices: they care about corporate profits and shareholder benefits, not the cost of living or how inflation affects working people).
It was never hidden from anyone that there are several, maybe very many fascist supporters in the CONservative caucus. Hell, three of them openly wined and dined an avowed German neo-Nazi, Christine Anderson, and posted photos of them with her on social media. PoiLIEvre’s response? He shrugged and kept them in caucus. After all, that was always his base. And the CONservative media just waved its collective hands like courting neo-Nazis was normal. Well, it seems a fashion for fascism has become the ‘new normal’ among conservatives.
PoiLIEvre’s entire campaign for the past three years since becoming leader of the party has been essentially “Canada is a broken shithole country it’s Trudeau’s fault” while pandering to every rightwing cause and extremist group he could cozy up to, including toxic American MAGA cultists. But since Trump attacked Canada’s sovereignty and economy (and continues to do so), PeePee has lately been trying — unsuccessfully — to rebrand himself as a patriot wrapped in the Canadian flag he previously disparaged.
However, PoiLIEVre’s deep MAGA connections have not been forgotten by either his opponents or his base, and are proving very unpopular among potential voters. A whole Canada Unity/Buy Canadian/Screw Trump movement has sprung up and the Trump mimic PoiLIEvre looks utterly out of place trying to pretend he’s one of that new team.
Don’t be misled by his new clothes or his denials about how much MAGA loves him. PoiLIEvre has been endorsed by far-right pro-fascist bloviators and icons like Elon Musk, Conrad Black, Alex Jones, Jordan Peterson, and Tucker Carlson. Trump himself said on the Hugh Hewitt Show in a live interview on January 6 2025 that his views and Poilievre’s are “aligned.” Any later remarks by the serial Liar-in-Chief that PoiLIEvre isn’t MAGA enough or that he would prefer a Liberal leader are just the usual misinformation and gaslighting Trump is infamous for. Trump is simply trying to interfere in our upcoming federal election.
Consider that extremist US VP JD Vance and PoiLIEvre’s new favourite MP Jamil Jivani are best friends from university and Jivani attended Trump’s inauguration. Repugnican operative Mike Roman who also advises PoiLIEvre’s party was charged in 2023 in the USA for his efforts in helping Trump’s attempt to overturn the 2020 election. The trucker insurrection that PoiLIEvre supported was a Repugnican/Alberta separatist campaign with funds pouring in from Repugnicans. Connect the dots yet?
Treasonous separatist and Trump lover Alberta premier Danielle Smith spoke in an interview on the far-right Brietbart News media on March 22, 2025, saying, “So I would think that there’d be, there’s probably still always going to be areas that are skirmishes or disputes about particular industries when it comes to the border, but I would say, on balance, the perspective that Pierre would bring, would be very much in sync with, I think…the new direction in America. And I think we’d have a really great relationship for the period of time they’re both in.”
Read that again. Alberta’s premier told not only American rightwing audiences, but anyone who listens to the broadcast on Sirius XM, that Pierre PoiLIEvre is “very much in sync” with fascist US president Trump who is currently conducting a trade war and assault on Canadian sovereignty and our economy. And this was broadcast only yesterday (at the time of this writing).
Smith also attended Trump’s inauguration. Of course, she did. She’s also been to MAr-a-LArdo, cap in hand, to kiss the ring like the other MAGA sycophants. The anti-Canadian Smith is also spending taxpayers’ money to be a keynote speaker at a far-right fundraising event for a private corporation in Florida at the end of this month, along with extremist MAGA cultist Ben Shapiro. The private company hosting the event describes itself as “an educational media platform devoted to furthering U.S. values.” In 2024, Smith appeared onstage with former Fox Newz host and Putin sycophant Tucker Carlson at events in Calgary and Edmonton.You can’t get any less Canadian than Smith.
The Protecting Canada organization released a “public memo” about the upcoming election that noted,

Meanwhile, as media blogger Dean Blundell points out, a combined US-Russia disinformation attack campaign has been launched against PM Mark Carney. Blundell writes:

Then, there’s the vicious memes and AI-generated content targeting political leaders like Jagmeet Singh, Mark Carney, and former PM Trudeau.
Even more disturbing, Pierre Poilievre’s MAGA Maple influencers have shamefully taken to trying to link Prime Minister Carney to the notorious paedophile Jeffrey Epstein.
It is a sick but calculated tactic to drive divisions between people.
Similarly, the National Post — Canada’s Der-Strumer-wannabe newspaper — has been running opinion columns (usually on the front page) by far-right bloviators disparaging and attacking Carney, as they did previously to Trudeau. Same weapons, different target. NatPost is seen by many Canadians as a pro-Trump/pro-Putin propaganda arm, similar to Fox News(the US propaganda arm of Russian state TV). Thanks to Stephen Harper allowing Canadian media to be sold to foreign investors, the whole PostMedia chain is owned by Chatham Assets, a US pro-Trump hedge fund.
On top of all the MAGA endorsements and Trump mimicry, on top of his continual negative depiction of Canada as a broken, crime-infested shithole country and Canadians as stupid people, his refusal to cooperate with the media, how can anyone with even a shred of decency, ethics, morality, or patriotism cast a vote for someone who refuses to get a security clearance even if he becomes Prime Minister of Canada.
Canada deserves better than the Maple MAGA PoiLIEvre.

This thinly veiled attempt to sway Canadian voters knowing that Trump endorsements are political Ebola. Trump’s endorsement is less about support for Carney and more about the dumbest, most transparent, reverse psychology move you’ll ever see.

Danielle Smith is Mark Carney’s secret weapon
It was supposed to be a cakewalk. Instead, as Pierre Poilievre kicks off the election campaign that was supposed to be a mere formality, his odds of becoming Canada’s next prime minister get longer with each passing day. And now, for some reason, his closest provincial ally just gave Mark Carney’s Liberals a gift-wrapped political sledgehammer to celebrate the launch of the election.
In a resurfaced early March interview with Breitbart, an online far-right American publication with longstanding ties to the Trump universe, Smith said the quiet part about Poilievre out loud — the part Poilievre’s team has spent weeks trying to bury. “The perspective that Pierre would bring would be very much in sync with, I think … the new direction in America. And I think we’d have a really great relationship for the period of time they’re both in.”
Worse, perhaps, she suggested that the Trump administration should stand down temporarily on tariffs specifically to help Poilievre win. “What I fear,” Smith said, “is that the longer this dispute goes on, politicians posture, and it seems to be benefiting the Liberals right now. So I would hope that we could put things on pause is what I’ve told administration officials. Let’s just put things on pause so we can get through an election.”
If you were looking for an example of foreign interference in our elections, this is about as bad as it gets. Worse, Smith might not be alone in soliciting it. As journalist Stephen Maher noted in a recent Toronto Star column, “two unrelated sources close to the CPC war room tell me that Poilievre’s team had even floated going so far as trying to get a message to the White House in an attempt to persuade Trump to distance himself from Poilievre.” In what is surely a total coincidence, Trump ended up doing exactly that.
In any sane and rational universe, Smith’s transparent treachery would be the end of her political career. She is openly collaborating with an administration that is trying to bring Canada to heel, whether through economic or military means, and has repeatedly threatened its sovereignty. Even in Alberta, where there is more support for joining the United States than elsewhere in Canada, this is still a wildly unpopular position. If the Alberta NDP is ever going to wake up from its self-induced political slumber, now would be a good time.
But even if Smith’s remarks don’t end her political career, they’ve already done tremendous damage to Poilievre’s. That’s because his hopes of winning the election it looked like he couldn’t lose now rest on his ability to create some distance between himself and President Donald Trump. That was already going to be a difficult assignment given the numerous ties between his key staff and MPs and the MAGA universe, not to mention his own Trump-like characteristics: pugilistic, loose with the facts, scornful of opposition and openly contemptuous of the media. Mix in the Conservative base’s disproportionate fondness for Trump, even in the face of his numerous threats to Canada’s sovereignty, and Poilievre was going to have to walk the narrowest of tightropes.
Now, it’s basically impossible. When given the chance to disavow Smith’s comments, Poilievre declined to call her out. “Trump has been very blunt that he wants a weak Canada that he can target,” he said, when asked about the remarks in the first hour of the election. “Electing Liberals will weaken our country still.” This isn’t going to cut it with most Canadians, especially once Smith’s comments get a wider airing with the general public. If he can’t even bear to criticize one of his biggest friends and political allies, how on earth is Poilievre going to stand up to Donald Trump?
Time will tell whether Trump is still the dominant ballot question in a month, and whether Canadians have changed their minds on who’s best equipped to handle him. But one thing is certain: Danielle Smith has already done more to hurt Poilievre’s chances than the Liberals ever could.

Despite Conservative leader Pierre Poilievre’s recent attempts to distance himself from US President Donald Trump, American right-wing MAGA media personalities and influencers have been some of Poilievre’s biggest supporters.
Poilievre has enjoyed several years of sympathetic coverage from right-wing media in the United States. However, as soon as Trump began talking about applying tariffs to Canadian products and making Canada the 51st state, Poilievre’s alignment with Donald Trump has appeared to become a liability for the Conservative Party’s hopes to form government.
The Conservative leader has watched his once seemingly insurmountable lead in the polls disappear over the past few months. According to the Toronto Star, Conservative insiders discussed using MP Jamil Jivani to send backchannel communications to his best friend, Vice President JD Vance, requesting Trump distance himself from Poilievre.
Poilievre has received kind words from Trump in the past. On January 6, 2025, in an interview with right-wing radio host Hugh Hewitt, Trump expressed positive feelings about the opportunity of working with Poilievre as Canada’s prime minister:
