Democracy or Fascism?

We are, today, watching the most momentous decision that Americans have had to make in the entirety of their — and my own — lifetimes. Compared to the choice between Harris and felon Trump, all other elections seem almost inconsequential. That’s because never before was the whole fabric of democracy at risk. Never before has an openly racist, misogynist, totalitarian, cognitively-addled felon come so close to winning the presidency. Never before has the entire American experiment been on the scales.

The choices are stark: between hope and despair; between optimism and negativity; between unity and division; between inclusion and exclusion; between women’s rights and a repressive misogyny; between collective goals and toxic, divisive racism; between a promise of a bright economic future and a dismal inflationary downturn; between comprehensive, well laid-out policies and the vague notion of a ‘concept of a policy;’ between laughter and insult; between pride in your nation and calling your nation a ‘garbage can;’ between surrounding oneself with experts and experienced people to help run the country or with unqualified cronies, family members, and campaign donors; between racial equality and white supremacism; between real faith and pseudo-Christian Talibangelism; between a prosecutor and a sexual predator; between the rule of law and the rule of the dictator; between a woman who wants everyone to prosper and a man who wants only himself to do so.

The choice is between intelligent, educated, accomplished, respected Kamala Harris and the serial adulterer, serial liar, pro-Putin, con artist, business failure, shoe salesman grifter, best friend of Jeffrey Epstein, and aged felon in severe cognitive decline, Donald Trump. That’s a choice between democracy and fascism.

On his Public Notice blog, Stephen Robinson asked, “Will America become Russia?” He wrote (emphasis added):

A persistent theme at any Trump rally is MAGA’s utter contempt for America, which Donald Trump has repeatedly called a “garbage can for the world.”
The MAGA movement is actively hostile to the America that currently exists — a diverse, inclusive multicultural democracy (even if it’s hanging by a thread). So on Election Day, it’s worth unpacking the ways in which Trump offers his supporters the promise of an America that’s eerily similar to Vladimir Putin’s Russia, a white male-dominated kleptocracy with rampant cronyism and corruption where a not-so-free press submits to the will of an authoritarian ruler.

So choose wisely, America. Today defines your future. There won’t be a choice in the future if you choose Trump. You will not be able to turn back to democracy if you don’t choose it today. The rest of the world is watching. Intensely. Our future depends on it, too.

Today, America will choose who to elect for its next president. The stakes couldn’t be higher. I have spent the last year screaming about them. Today, I want to talk on a more personal level about how you and the people you know and love could be affected by a second Trump presidency. Show up to vote for Kamala Harris to protect the people you love. It’s a simple act you can do in the next 24 hours that could make all the difference in the world.

Project 2025 is Trump’s detailed plan to shut you up, and shut you out. You matter, and you have a voice.
Project 2025, also known as “Mandate for Leadership: The Conservative Promise,” is a document created to be a roadmap for a second Donald Trump presidency. It was prepared by the ultra-conservative Heritage Foundation and many former Trump staffers–those who didn’t leave in disgrace, quit in disgust, or narrowly avoid getting hanged by his mob.
Trump claims to know nothing about it. He’s lying. [1] And if elected, Trump’s lack of self-discipline and fathomless self-absorption means that the people he surrounds himself with will have free rein to enact Project 2025’s agenda.
So we’ve made comics to explain some of that agenda, and move you to vote against it.
We did this because you shouldn’t have to read this monstrosity. After all, it’s more than fifty times as long as the Declaration of Independence and the U.S. Constitution…combined.
Our two founding documents are short because it doesn’t take a lot of words to say “You matter, and you have a voice.”
Project 2025 is longer because it’s a detailed plan to shut you up, and shut you out.
Don’t let it do either. Read on, then vote.

‘Negativity is exhausting’: Felon Trump turns to dark rhetoric in his closing argument
In their closing arguments to voters, Vice President Kamala Harris focused on unity, while former President Donald Trump repeated his dark rhetoric, grievances, insults, threats, and lies. Former Chief of Staff to VP Pence Marc Short, Associate Professor of Political Science at Fordham University Christina Greer, and former FL GOP Congressman Carlos Curbelo join José Díaz-Balart and Ana Cabrera to weigh on the state of the race in its final hours.
