As I write this, Canadian news media are racing to cover and explain the story that the racist felon fascist president, Donald Trump, has imposed 25% tariffs on Canada, Mexico, and China. This is a concerted effort to cause their economies to collapse, and in Canada’s case, to bully us into submission and allow our nation to be subsumed into his empire. As I have written on social media in the past, he is following Hitler’s playbook: his Rhineland move is to send troops into Panama; his Anschluss move is to force Canada into annexation; his Sudentenland move is to occupy Greenland. Recognize them? If you don’t, you have not been paying attention to either events or history.
Canada is the USA’s largest trading partner, and with Mexico, we have a longstanding and efficient trade deal with the USA called the North American Free Trade Association (NAFTA). Trump illegally tore that up and started a trade war. This has nothing to do with illegal drugs or immigrants. It has everything to do with Trump cementing his power as a dictator, and following the guidelines laid out in Project 2025. Like we were warned he would.
He has already pardoned 1,600 criminal, far-right insurrectionists who tried to overthrow the US government on January 6: his Brownshirts are back on the street to wreak violence and havoc in his name. He has started building concentration camps for his ethnic cleansing program: declaring 30,000 immigrants will be forced into Guantanamo, a facility with currently four prisoners, which can hold up to 680. He has been firing — illegally, of course — FBI agents who investigated his Jan. 6 coup attempt, as well as judges, prosecutors, and civil servants. He has cut funding to and payments from vital social services. He has forced government agencies to stop sharing crucial medical and outbreak data, and cleansed government websites of previous data. He has ended programs and policies around equality and inclusion. He has allowed the shadow president and foreign-born SpaceNazi, Elon Musk, to have unlimited access to Americans’ confidential personal data in the US Treasury as well as giving the immigrant Musk control over the Treasury’s vital payment system. Trump pulled out of the World Health Organization (WHO) and stopped foreign aid payments.
Soon he will pull out of NATO and the United Nations, and provide aid to Putin to conquer Ukraine. Putin will next invade the Baltic States and Poland, rebuilding Stalin’s empire. Trump will support him in this. He will likely support and possibly finance North Korea’s invasion of South Korea because he has a bromance with the North Korean dictator he wants to see grow. The new Axis will be the USA, Russia, and North Korea.
We already know there are traitors in high places here: Alberta’s Premier Danielle Smith has made it clear who she is loyal to, and it isn’t Canada or Canadians. Premier Doug Ford bloviates about standing up to Trump but the corrupt Ford signed a $100 million dollar deal with Nazi-saluting Elon Musk’s Starlink corporation (instead of choosing Canadian technology). Ford is as credible as Smith in his loyalties. CONservative leader Pierre PoiLIEvre is a darling of US MAGA podcasters and video hosts. He will easily and quickly sell out Canada if he is elected Prime Minister — or more likely give us away, given his association with the far-right Diagolon which has long preached union with the USA. PoiLIEvre is in thrall to the American con man he has mimicked and idolized for many years. PolLIEvre’s extremist Maple MAGA drive around in their pickups covered in Fuck Trudeau stickers and flags, post in online anti-vaxxer/anti-mandate/anti-science groups, and appear in insurrectionist truck convoys. They are the Canadian arm of domestic terrorist groups like the Proud Boys which Trump pardoned and will be PoiLIEvre’s Brownshirts.
With the threat to Canada’s economy and democracy, it is vital for Canadians to stand up and resist. If you still support Trump after his attack on our sovereignty via tariffs, then you are a traitor to Canada. You should emigrate to the USA immediately. If you vacation in the USA, and help feed the fascist economy, you are a traitor to Canada and should be branded a collaborator’ treated as any collaborator was after WWII.
You are either a Canadian or a Trump supporter. You cannot be both.
I’ll say it again: I told you so. I warned you about Trump. So did hundreds, even thousands of others in the USA and elsewhere. And now, democracy in the USA is dead. It died when Trump was voted into the presidency just like it died in Germany when Hitler was voted into office and made chancellor in 1933. America’s democracy died at the hands of racists, misogynists, opportunists, Talibangelists, and the gullible. And now the world will pay the price.
You are either a Canadian or a Trump supporter. You cannot be both. Decide where you stand, before the tumbrils and guillotines appear.

Similarities between Donald Trump and Hitler are impossible to ignore
I say this as a historian whose PhD thesis and speciality for the last 30 years is the rise of National Socialism. Until now I’ve been cautious about comparing Trump to Hitler, instead seeing parallels with later Weimar Germany or late 19th/early 20th century USA and the era of the robber barons, cartels, trusts and monopolies. However, the last few days have changed my mind. I would like to add a few more similarities to reinforce Mhairi’s analysis.
Hitler, like Trump, was legitimately and democratically elected. Immediately on coming to power in 1933, he began issuing executive decrees and sidelining the parliamentary Reichstag. One of his first orders was the pardon and release of hundreds of his followers who had been jailed for violent attacks on left-wing supporters, for arson, and even for murder.
PS. Do NOT shop on Amazon if you can avoid it. Buy Canadian. There are a lot of suggestions for sites, stores, products, and retail operations online that offer alternatives to American resellers. And, of course, on Amazon, eBay, and other US sites, a LOT of prices will be spiralling higher as the tariffs kick in, and your Canadian dollar falls. Buy Mexican or Chinese before you support an American seller.
I realize that it has items you cannot find locally, but try to avoid helping the sycophant Bezos in enriching himself.
Also: Cancel US-based streaming services like Netflix and Paramount. You can subscribe to Acorn (British, New Zealand, Australian, European shows) and/or Britbox (United Kingdom shows) and get excellent value and entertainment.

MAGA and their Conservative collaborators are the biggest threat to Canada right now
“The MAGA cancer has been growing within Canada for years.”
There may not necessarily be traitors in Parliament, but that doesn’t mean Canada is free of foreign interference. Disinformation and misinformation, and our willingness to believe them, is an even greater threat to our society.
The MAGA cancer has been growing within Canada for years, aided by a Conservative Party whose ideology is dominated by American-funded libertarian think tanks that traffic in disinformation.
It’s the Conservatives who imported America’s culture war, and take cues from the Trump political playbook. It’s the Conservatives who used ‘foreign interference’ for political gain, exploiting the racism they claim doesn’t exist in our society.
One country is interfering in our affairs right now, threatening annexation and a trade war. And they’re being helped.

‘Am I now a walking target?’: The Canadians boycotting travel to the United States because of Trump
(Canadians who still travel to the USA for vacations are collaborators with the fascists)
After Donald Trump was elected president, the group of 11 decided to take a “wait and see” approach. But the US president’s threat to impose punishing tariffs and to annex Canada, along with his trolling of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, who Trump called “Governor Justin Trudeau of the Great State of Canada,” were the last straw.
“The rhetoric about tariffs, the mockery of our prime minister and the musing about us becoming the 51st state, that did it for all of us,” Dale told CNN Travel. “Everyone was in agreement that we’re not going. We’re going to keep our money in our own country.”
Dale is part of a growing chorus of angry Canadians who have become vocal about boycotting travel to the US over the next four years. People on both sides of the border are already reporting travel-related fallout, with anxiety running both ways.
On social media, the discourse among many Canadians is a mix of worry, fear, outrage and disappointment. While some vow not to step foot in the US while Trump is in office, others say they are torn, as they have upcoming family or professional commitments.
Posts on social media suggest some Canadian snowbirds who usually escape Canadian winters in states like Florida or Arizona now say they are choosing to winter at home or are making a permanent move back north.
Some pledge to only visit Democrat-leaning states like California and New York. Others say they will continue to visit but spend at Black, Latino, POC and LGBTQ+-owned businesses and support marginalized groups perceived to have a target on their back under the Trump administration.
